Oral hygiene
WHAT IS IT?
Professional oral hygiene is one of the main procedures for the prevention of dental diseases, during which supragingival as well as subgingival dental plaque and stones are removed, after cleaning the pigmented plaque, the teeth become visibly whiter.
WHY IS IT NECESSARY?
It is a preventive measure against various dental or gum problems that helps preserve a healthy and beautiful smile. If the procedure is performed irregularly, the risk of gum inflammation (gingivitis) increases. Untreated gingivitis develops into a more severe form of the disease - periodontitis. Periodontitis negatively affects not only the teeth and gums, but also the jawbone, which eventually begins to disappear. Also, tartar becomes an excellent breeding ground for bacteria that cause tooth decay.
WHEN NEEDED?
We recommend patients to perform professional oral hygiene at least 1-2 times a year. However, the frequency of procedures depends on the patient's individual oral hygiene and the clinical situation in the mouth. Patients with periodontal diseases, undergoing orthodontic treatment or with poor oral hygiene habits are advised to perform oral hygiene every 3-4 months. The periodicity of individual oral hygiene is determined by the doctor.
FLOW OF THE PROCEDURE
A professional oral hygiene procedure usually lasts about 30-60 minutes.
- The procedure is performed with an ultrasonic scaler and special instruments.
- Pigmentary plaque, which is usually caused by the consumption of coffee and tea and/or smoking, is cleaned using the "Air - Flow" system.
- The teeth are polished with a special paste and brushes.
- Individual oral care products are selected, training is given to use them correctly and the frequency of procedures is recommended.
Most of the time, the procedure is not painful, but if the patient has sensitive teeth, anesthesia (analgesia) can always be applied. A few days after the procedure, the teeth may be slightly more sensitive, the gums may be irritated. After the procedure, it is recommended not to eat for at least an hour and to avoid coloring foods that day.
