Children's dentistry
Children's dentistry - a part of dentistry that includes children's dental caries, non-carious, periodontal, etc. principles of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of oral diseases.
The first visit to the dentist should not be because of pain, because this visit is the most important and remains in the child's memory for a long time. This visit should be as soon as the first tooth erupts. During it, the child is introduced to the environment, dental instruments and an examination in the form of a game, and parents are given detailed recommendations on the care of milk teeth and nutritional features. The visit should be prepared in advance.
Children's dentistry should be closely related to parents' work at home. Parents play a very important role because they are the most important people for a child and the child trusts them the most. It is best for parents to tell their child about the dentist and what he does. You can show educational videos or read fairy tales about dental treatment before the visit. In no case do not use phrases: it really won't hurt you; nothing will be done to you; you will eat a lot of sweets and not brush your teeth; you're not listening to me, so we're going to the dentist, and you're going to be in pain there. These phrases in advance create unreasonable fear and often the child refuses to even sit in the dentist's chair.
It is recommended to have a preventive dental check-up every 6 months. This is to establish a close relationship and trust with the small patient and to notice the beginnings of possible caries in time. Regardless of whether it is the first or the fifth visit, the doctor always tries to be understanding, gentle and attentive to the needs of the parents and the little patient. The acquired experience determines the patient's attitude towards oral health and treatment in the future.
Protecting and treating baby teeth is very important, primarily for chewing and aesthetic function and for holding space for permanent teeth. If the teeth are not treated in time, caries can progress to nerve damage or an abscess may appear at the top of the root.
Treatment of milk tooth. Before performing the procedure, the doctor tells and shows what will be done during it. It explains what behavior is expected. Efforts are made to praise and motivate the patient after each procedure. The patient is allowed to raise his hand and stop the procedure. To divert the patient's attention from the unpleasant procedure, breaks are taken or an animated film is turned on.
